I was born and brought up in Fife and now live and work from my studio at WASPS, Patriothall Studios, Stockbridge, Edinburgh. Producing mainly semi-abstract paintings, my work is largely influenced by nature, landscape and coastal scenes.
My interpretation of landscape typically emphasises an object or a particular line I have sketched, photographed or remembered. In this way, common perceptions of traditional landscape paintings and perspective are distorted and transformed by breaking the features within them into a simple shape or a block of flat or textured colour. This leads to a stronger focus on composition and allows clearly defined objects more emphasis in the space they occupy within the painting. My preferred medium is acrylic and this is normally applied to board.
