I’ve lived in Edinburgh for many years but I was born in the Scottish Borders and the colour, light
and landscape of this area has always been an inspiration to me. Travels around Scotland and
Europe provide continuing inspiration and wonder. I look closely at the contours of the land and
I’m fascinated by the patterns of fields, hedges and pathways. I use mixed media (acrylic,
watercolour, collage, pencil, ink) to interpret landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes. Through
colour I try to give a sense of an area and the feel of a place – a pop of orange, a sliver of red, a
squiggle of turquoise – colours that sing together.
